What is an air ambulance?

An air ambulance is an aircraft specially designed to transport people with medical conditions that would make it difficult or undesirable to travel long distances via conventional aircraft or other means.

Most times, the patient being transported will be accompanied by one or more specially trained medical professionals. These medical professionals may be doctors, nurses or paramedics with specialized training for ambulance flights and chosen based on a particular patients transport needs.

The air ambulance plane itself is also outfitted with equipment such as stretchers, monitors etc to deliver the care necessary to transport the patient.

Lots of services such as Make-A-Wish and St Jude's often use such air ambulance services.
